Benburb vs Darvel FC 25 March 2026

The forecast for  last nights game in Govan , was 2 degrees.

Based on that information,  I decided it was going to be too cold for me to attend , but I asked my good mate , Craig Downie ( match secretary)  to advise me some details that I could pass onto  you to keep you updated .

As requested  , Craig texted me some notes on the game , but it was only the basics . This was due to the fact he was frozen to the core , due to the baltic weather in Glasgow,  which I think  confirmed my decision was right  to give this game a miss.

It seemed to be an even game , with Benburb scoring  the opening  goal in the first half by intercepting a misplaced pass, and taking advantage.  Half time 1-0 to the home side .

Second half , about the sixty minute mark , Darvel were awarded a penalty,  and Ross Barbour,  as usual , slotted the  ball into the goalies right hand side .

I know this , as I saw the pictures taken by club photographer,  Barry Douglas , on the Facebook page this afternoon.

A wee bit of excitement?  In the 88th minute,  the floodlights went out . It took 15 minutes  for someone to get a couple of shillings to put in the meter , to allow the game to finish

The game finished 1- 1 .

I   suppose a draw away from home is not too bad , as we need to take  into context that we were missing 3 regular starters last night . And 4 under 20s players on the bench .

Our left back Cammy Williamson got injured against Vale of Clyde , and he could unfortunately be out till end of the season .

Jamie Bowman,  who scores regularly  from midfield has been out for a couple of games , and lastly , our old favourite,  Scott Lewis , who usually gets a mention in these reports was missing last night , as he was a naughty boy , being sent off for kicking the ball away , and receiving a second yellow for this offence , against St. Rochs in the previous  league match .

We are scheduled to be at home this Saturday against Adrossan Winton Rovers , who just happen to have ex Darvel manager , Tony Mcinally as their boss.   It will be interesting  to see what kind of reception he receives when he turns up at Recreation park once again .
