Whitletts vs Darvel Fc 4 April 2026 (4-2)

On the road down to Ayr on Saturday, it was almost monsoon conditions , but it stopped raining by kick off at 2 pm . Although the rain went off , it was still a murky , dreich day , and the flood lights were on for the duration of the match . Later on in Scotland, we had storm "Dave " from about 6 pm to approx 3 am Sunday morning. It was mainly gusty winds in our area , with no real damage being done . Sunday drifted from spells of sunshine to periods of heavy rain , which also included some hailstones coming down as well .
Right , enough about the weather, and let's get on with the match report, although it's not very encouraging this week , as you will have gathered by the headline above.
The first half was almost completely forgettable, Darvel had most of the possession, but Whitletts were incredibly well drilled in defence , with every player back between the penalty box and the half way line . Our build up play in possession was very slow and pedestrian, not creating any clear cut chances , the exception being a couple of good cross balls on the deck from Tom Sneddon ( under 20's player ) that were not snapped up by the forwards . Perhaps Tom would have been better having a shot at goal instead .
As per usual , the inevitable happened when Whitletts broke up the Park in a rare excursion into our half . We had 2 opportunities to clear the ball from the left hand side of the box , and failed . The second time , it was crossed into the middle of the box , where a completely unmarked forward headed the ball into the net to open the scoring .
This lead was very short lived however when Jordan Bow ( centre half ) decided to have a crack at at goal from about 30 yards and it flew past the home keeper at a rate of knots for the equaliser. This was our first, in fact , our only shot on goal in the first half.
The message given to the Darvel players at half time was obviously to shoot on sight and we had a couple of close efforts narrowly going past the post. This was more like it , and for the first time , we were getting shots away and looked like we could maybe take the lead .
This was not in the script, however, as the home side broke away again in the 56th min, and another free header was scored against us .58 minutes on the clock , and it was 2 -2 ,courtesy of a magnificent strike from the right wing by Danny Burns . At least we were striking back quickly.
On about the 63rd minute, Tom Sneddon was brought down on the edge of the box . No foul awarded, but in the next minute, Tom committed a foul on a home player , and immediately received a second yellow , which resulted in him being sent off. Extremely harsh decision . 65 mins , another free header ( this is getting boring now ) 3- 2 68 mins , Scott Lewis brought down in the box. Here we go , Ross Barbour will equalise from the spot , except he didn't. We could not believe it when his shot was quite tame , and the goalie had an easy save. Oh dear .
We had a couple of flurries in attack with a couple of decent chances being scorned, and the inevitable happened. On 76 minutes Whitletts star man , Michael Moffat , chased a ball, that looked like a lost cause on their left hand side , floated the ball over to the back post , and once again , a header was despatched into our net. We knew that was game over at this point , at 4- 2 to the home side.
