Darvel FC vs St Roch's 14 March 2026 2-2

This was a great result for Darvel, as I think this will become clear as I type out the details of the match .
Once again, a fine sunny afternoon in Darvel. Game on after magnificent work from our groundsman , Stephen Hultman and his group of helpers . Due to the horrendous amount of rain the pitch received on Friday, it was doubtful at one point if this game would go ahead.
Now to the action. On about 10 minutes St. Rochs skelped our left hand post , and they must have enjoyed doing that , as they repeated this feat 5 minutes later. After about the20 to 25 minute mark , Darvel started to make some progress, but nothing came from a corner , or a free kick from left hand side . Reece Mcguire carved out a chance for Scott Lewis , who unfortunately screwed his shot wide of the right hand post.
30 minutes , an attack from the visitors caused trouble in the home box . After some valiant efforts to clear the ball , the referee decided the ball had crossed the line . Hard to see from our position in the ground , but we supposed the ref must have 20/20 vision from his position to spot that ( we are of course biased in our opinions)
The visitors had one more chance before half time , Darvel seemed a bit quiet at this point so HT 1-0 to away side . Since NN came in , Darvel have seemed to approach second halves in a more positive fashion and after about 15 minutes, it was opening up a bit , and play was going end to end .
50 th minute, Scott Lewis booked ( watch this space ) in fact there was a wee flurry of bookings ( some poor decisions by ref) but he was getting into the spirit of waving his yellow card about.
About 70 odd minutes in , referee chose to switch to red card and waved this at Scott Lewis , for kicking the ball away in disbelief at referees offside call.
NN received a yellow card at this point . Oh dear 75 minute, penalty awarded to visitors. Wrong decision, if happened in front of us , and it was a foul outside the box.
Andy Wilson given no chance . 2- 0.Down to 10 men , game over.
Then the visitors created a golden opportunity to wrap the game up but their attacker shot tamely past the post ( phew ) 80th minute, a cross into visitors box headed home strongly by Luke Ramsey! The comeback is on !
It was still a bit end to end , but Darvel were finishing the game on top , and on 89 minutes, Robbie Mcdougall rattled in a superb shot from the right hand side of the box , past the goalie , into the net. 2- 2 . Yahoo ! In time added on , the visitors created another chance , and fortunately missed again.
Then the final whistle blew , to a huge roar ( mainly relief) from the home support and the players were applauded off the park for retrieving a draw , when the game looked over at 2-0
As I said earlier, a great result , against a good team, in second place above us , in third place , and they also have a few games in hand .
This result, should motivate us for the games that lie ahead.
We were scheduled to play Irvine Meadow away in the league next Saturday, but they are involved in a cup tie, so our game has been postponed .
So we look forward to being at home again on league duty on the 28th , when we are due to host Ardrossan Winton Rovers .
