Darvel FC vs Vale of Clyde 04 .03 .2026

On Wednesday night, Darvel made it back-to-back wins in the league, defeating Vale of Clyde 1-0.

The visitors started the game brighter but struggled to create many clear-cut chances as the hosts grew into the game before the break.

Darvel took a very early lead in the second half and, despite multiple chances for Vale of Clyde, held on for a big win at Recreation Park.

The visitors came close to taking the lead in the fourth minute. A good counter attack ended with a cross into the box that was headed wide, but the offside flag was raised quickly.

Darvel got a big chance to take the lead in the 11th minute when a defensive clearance from the visitors fell into the path of Jamie Bowman, who couldn’t keep his shot down.

Another quick counter from Vale of Clyde ended with an acrobatic attempt at goal, but it was well wide of the mark.

A brilliant cross field pass found Scott Lewis, whose cross into the area was blocked by the first man. The Vale, then, won a free kick just outside the area, but it went wide of the back post.

The visiting goalkeeper launched a long ball forward from a free kick, which was met by an attacker. The strike was easily held by Darvel goalkeeper Calum Smith.

With 10 minutes of the first half to go, Darvel started pushing for an opener. Danny Burns saw a shot blocked, whilst the Vale created a few half chances.

Before the break, the home side came very close to an opener. Cameron Williamson’s shot cannoned off the back post, the follow-up strike was cleared off the line, before Ross Barbour fired wide of the target to keep the score goalless at the break.

In the first 30 seconds of the restart, Darvel took the lead. Scott Lewis raced down the right wing, cut inside and cut the ball back for the late run of Jamie Bowman, who fired in the opener.

Vale of Clyde were up the other end of the pitch in a flash, and Nathan Anderson’s strike was well saved by Smith.

Another cross into the box by the visitors was headed wide of Smith’s goal in their search for an equaliser.

Just before the hour, Darvel got a big chance to make it 2-0. A free kick was won on the edge of the area. Ross Barbour played it short to Conner McGlinchey, but his strike was blocked.

Darvel got another big chance soon after. Scott Lewis was found in space, his cutback was met by both a Vale of Clyde defender and Robbie McDougall, allowing Vale of Clyde goalkeeper Craig Gordon to gather.

Vale of Clyde came close to an equaliser, but the strike went wide of the back post.

Scott Lewis forced a big save from Craig Gordon, who palmed the strike from distance over the bar.

The visitors continued to threaten with good defending from Darvel preventing an equaliser. Danny Burns picked up a late yellow card as the Vale saw out a 1-0 win.

Darvel are back at home on Saturday with a friendly against St Cadocs at 1pm. The next league game is, also, at home on the 14th of March against St Roch’s, at 2pm.
