Friendly Darvel FC vs St Cadocs 07 03 2026
As to be expected,  this game was never going to get the adrenaline pumping in the people who chose to attend this encounter.  However, here's  some details on  how the game went.
It was a beautiful sunny afternoon when the game kicked off at 1 pm . What a difference  from the conditions we have  had to put up with over the last few weeks.
Not much happened for either side in the first 20 minutes  or so , just a few wee small half chances . To be fair to Darvel,  there was several personnel changes from the game played on Wednesday night.  3 under 20's in the starting eleven , which allowed  some of our experienced  players  to get a break  before next Saturday's  big match .
In the 25th minute,  Darvel created a good move down  the right wing and the ball eventually found itself at the feet of Danny Burns, coming into the penalty box from the left wing .
Great chance , here we go 1- 0 to us  !  Not quite  the outcome we expected . Instead of putting  the ball into the net , Danny crashed the ball off the crossbar , when it seemed easier ( to all the experts in the crowd of course ) to score the opening goal .
From about this point, St. Cadocs started to take control of the game , and eventually created a good chance from their right wing for the centre forward to shoot across the home keeper,  with the ball hitting the net on the goalies right hand side. Time 37 minutes.
For the rest of the first half , St. Cadocs pushed on and the Darvel keeper, young  Calum Smith again today , made 3 outstanding saves before the half time whistle.
The second  half started off pretty much the same way the first half commenced . Not much happening.
Darvel came close on a couple of occasions around the sixty minute mark , a tame shot from Scott Lewis,  and a header  that drifted past the post .
The 65th minute saw the  substitution  that the home supporters were waiting  for , when  none other than the Darvel manager , Nacho Novo  entered the fray !
His first contribution was a chip which landed just over the bar . Next he passed a through ball to Scott Lewis on the right wing . Scott made a good cross into the danger area , but there were no takers to take advantage.  Just after this , Scott received a yellow card from the referee ( please have a look at him on the Darvel Facebook page to notice his , appearance,  let's say )
Scott deserved this booking , and it may have been red in a competitive match , as he fair clugged the opposition player in front of where we were standing.
St. Cadocs hit the bar in the closing minutes with a shot from substitute Scott Ferguson  ( Fergie ) , who wore the Darvel colours a couple of years ago . He  was a firm favourite with the fans during his time at the club .
Full time 1-0 to the  visitors in a game that didn't really matter that much , but Darvel  finished with a lot of under 20's  players  getting some minutes on the park .
That's it  until next Saturday,  when we take on the rascals from  St. Rochs at home .
This game has all the makings of being a cracker. Let's hope we get all 3 points to keep us up near the top of the league   !
